Based out of Ringwood (BH24 3FE)

£13.03 per hour

Variety of contracts available, various care home locations, hours by arrangement (24-40 hours per week)

Car driver / own tools essential

Colten Care is an expanding family-owned business with 21 beautifully appointed care homes across Dorset, Hampshire, Wiltshire and West Sussex.  We seek a variety of Maintenance people to join our care home teams on a fixed term contract basis until 31st March 2021.

About You

You will demonstrate a sound general knowledge of maintenance and perhaps worked as a ‘handy-man’ either in an employed capacity or self-employed.  If you have experience of building and mechanical services or of a specific trade such as electrical work, carpentry or plumbing, this will be an advantage.

You’ll take responsibility for basic administrative tasks, keeping daily records and updating your line manager.  You will be calm under pressure; demonstrate a great eye for detail and able to work without immediate supervision, following a period of training.

It would be helpful if you have previously worked in a care home, hospitality or similar setting, where customer contact and friendly conversations with people regularly feature in the role.

You must be a car driver with your own tools to carry out the necessary duties of the post.

Your employment is subject to an eligibility check, the receipt of two satisfactory job references plus an enhanced disclosure and barring service (DBS) background check.  We can accept DBS certificates registered with the update service.

More about the job

Our Maintenance personnel provide routine maintenance services and minor repair work within our care homes.

In line with Health and Safety standards and Colten’s procedures, you will carry out regular tests on equipment such as fire alarms, extinguishers, security doors, lighting, window restrictors, nursing beds and other facilities. Other duties will include the checking and mending of profile beds, fitting shelves and picture hooks, changing light bulbs, securing door handles and helping to move furniture.   A central part of the maintenance role is administrative, keeping accurate records, checking and updating the maintenance book and reporting to the Facilities Management team to ensure the home is safe and meets compliance standards.

Safe, reliable facilities are essential to our residents’ individual well-being and you will be helping to provide a responsive approach to meet the needs of the care home and its residents.

Contracts are offered as 24-40 hours per week, by arrangement, and will end on 31st March 2021.

Through the selection process, we will manage your expectations about the relevant care home that will be most suitable to your living arrangements and daily commute.
